The Academics

Students will enroll in two courses for this program.  The first course is the Clinical Observation Internship in Health Studies.  The purpose of this course is to offer students a global vision of the Chilean health system, of health policies and healthcare delivery to community. This seminar is structured as academic support and context to the clinical observation that students will do in the field, whose objective is to conduct and develop awareness and respect in medical assistance practices based on cultural and social aspects that are particular to Chile. This course will also analyze transversal themes such as efficiency, equity and the quality of service delivery to patients in each of the sessions.

The second course is Spanish for Health PractitionersThis course is designed to develop students' professional studies in the health care area while simultaneously preparing them to work in cross-cultural settings where effective communicative Spanish skills play a crucial role. The emphasis of this course is placed both on the linguistic aspects and also on the development of students? cultural competence and understanding. Students will learn about the Chilean health system and non-traditional health care practices while expanding their medical vocabulary.
