Student Ambassador Program  Are you enthusiastic about your study abroad experience?  Are you eager to share your experiences with others? If your answers to these questions are yes, please consider applying to be a Student Ambassador, part of the University's Peer Education program. As a Student Ambassador, you will have the option to volunteer in outreach activities such as the study abroad fairs, predeparture orientations, informational sessions, and classroom visits and/or serve as a mentor to incoming exchange students. We also ask that you be available to interested study abroad participants through email and/or phone communication. In return, you will be invited to UConn's Peer Education Recognition Ceremony held in April and you will receive a Certificate of Involvement from the Office of Study Abroad. To download an application please click here.

Conversation Partners People interested in meeting people from different cultures needed! Students need to hear "real" English and practice with their peers in personal and informal settings. Volunteering to be a Conversation Partner is a way to experience another culture without ever leaving the Storrs campus. Conversation Partners may join classes regularly or just once or twice.

If you think you may be interested in volunteering this semester, please contact Neena Kapoor at neena.kapoor@uconn.edu or 860-486-2127.

French Club A dynamic French Club led by an exchange graduate student from Paris organizes a variety of extra-curricular events involving students at all levels. These include excursions to New York City, Boston, and Montreal, as well as French, Caribbean, and African dinners.

For more information contact: Professor Lucy McNeece. Lucy.mcneece@uconn.edu

Spanish Club The Spanish Club is organized by Graduate students in the Spanish section of the Modern and Classical Languages and its main function is to create a space where students learning Spanish have the opportunity to practice and use the Spanish they learn in the classroom as well as to meet other students who are  interested in Latinamerican and Spanish culture. One of the activities organized on a weekly or bi-weekly basis is a meeting generally conducted by a TA in which they talk in Spanish discussing a particular topic. They also organize movies and dinners or other types of activities.

Job Search/Resume An experience abroad looks very attractive on a resume. This shows the potential employer that you have skills in adaptability, intercultural competence, resourcefulness, and possibly a second language. You may find that your experience abroad has left you wanting more. Visit the UConn career center for employment opportunities abroad. Another wonderful resource is the  magazine, Transitions Abroad, designed for those interested in living, working or volunteering abroad.
